Well, I didn't get much accomplished today. I woke up with a pounding headache...maybe I didn't drink enough water yesterday, who knows? I didn't end up leaving the bed until 3:30 and that was only because I thought food might make me feel better. I wandered up the street to the Sahara Cafe and ate kebbe and hummus, finished off with some baklava. The kebbe was surprisingly good...it's minced lamb and spices, rolled up in a ball and fried.
My head was still hurting, so I wandered back by a grocery, got some water, juices and other supplies and headed back to my room, where I laid down for another hour. I got sick of doing nothing. I felt like doing something low-impact, so I went to a movie. I wanted to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but they only had that dubbed into Magyar, not in subtitles. So I saw Transformers, which was in English with Magyar subtitles. It was ok...worth sitting in the dark.
When I left, I was hungry again, but not willing to spend two hours eating so I did the classic fast food...McDonald's. I know, shameful. But at least my headache disappeared sometime during the movie. I met a Hungarian woman and her baby there. She didn't speak much English, but I played with her baby a little. It's amazing that the world over, if you compliment someone's children, they are automatically so much friendlier. It was the same when I was in Malaysia...I was sitting in a park when a Muslim Malay woman walked up with her children. When I smiled at her children and waved at them, she started trying out her limited English on me. And I was a Caucasian infidel:)
It was interesting that all the shops here closed today at 3pm. I guess Saturday is NOT a shopping day.
Also something else I meant to mention: when you walk into my hotel room, there is a slot in the wall on the left, similar to the key card device on the door. You have to put your access card into it to turn on the electricity to the room. They want to make sure you're not wasting electricity while you're not here. Cool, huh?
It was really hot here today. I hope tomorrow's a better day.
