Well, I made it to Jackson, MS....actually Pearl, MS, on the outskirts. It's funny. I just talked to my dad, and he used to live in Pearl, back when he was with Southern Airways. It's a small, small world.
It only took me about 5.5 hours to make it here today...about 400 miles from home. So that made me feel good, because now I won't see the days of driving as being so long. I had figured on about 7 hours with stops.
The drive was boring today...the only real sight was the Talladega Super Speedway. But it was green and pretty along the way. I listed to "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer on the way, which was great. It really kept my mind occupied. I will have to get a couple more audiobooks.
It's funny because there's a debate on whether the main character is a hero or just mentally ill or supremely hubristic. I'm definitely interested in his motivations, but I don't consider him a hero. I think he's a little bit of both of the latter two things. I just think that you don't go into the wilderness without proper supplies unless some part of you does want to die. And I think his pride let him think his abilities would carry him through. But it's a really interesting story...about all of the characters in the book. I also liked his book "Under the Banner of Heaven" which is about fundamentalist Mormons.
This evening, I went to eat, then I went to the movies to see Ironman. It was great! I didn't know what to expect..I don't think I'd even seen a trailer for it. Two thumbs up!
Well, I'm going to turn in fairly soon. I'd like to get up early and get to Dallas so maybe I can do some sightseeing down at Dealey Plaza.
